William W. “Bill” Smith

William Wade “Bill” Smith was born August 30, 1955, in Jackson County, Missouri and departed this life on May 30, 2022, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with his wife Shelly by his side, at the age of 66 years and 9 months.

He was the son of Porter Samuel and Hazel May (Kagarice) Smith.

Bill spent his younger years in the Jackson County, Missouri area. He attended Hazel Grove School in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Bill held several jobs throughout his lifetime. First, he was an over-the-road truck driver, then he went to work for the Missouri State Highway Department for several years before becoming a truck driver for Chuck’s Disposal Company. Later he was a truck driver and delivery person for Greesons Greenhouse and, the last job he held, before declining health forced his retirement, was that of a custodian for Strasburg School District.

On March 21, 1987, Bill was united in marriage with Shelly Rene Foley at the Greenwood Baptist Church in Greenwood, Missouri. Bill and Shelly made their home in the Pleasant Hill area until 2019 when they moved to Strasburg, Missouri.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and “a good meal”.

Bill was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He treasured his family and the time he spent with them. He cherished his three grandsons, and they in turn loved their Pop-Pop.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Porter and Hazel Smith, and six brothers, Homer Smith, Charles Smith, Jim Smith, Bob Smith, Jerry Smith and Russell Smith.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shelly Smith of the home; daughter, Dawn Smith of Strasburg, Missouri; brother, Don Smith; sister, Mary Weddle and husband Earl of Independence, Missouri; grandsons, Phillip Goodwin of Lincoln, Nebraska, Braxton, Conner and Conrad, other relatives and many friends.

The family of William Wade “Bill” Smith will receive friends from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2022, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2022, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Missouri, with Rev. Tim Casteel officiating.  

Cremation has been accorded.
