Samuel J. Lilly

Samuel Joseph Lilly was born October 25, 1959 in Harrisonville, Missouri and departed this life on January 23, 2022 at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by the love of family, at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 29 days.

He was the son of Robert Eugene and Mildred Lois (Rockwell) Lilly.

Sam attended grade school in both Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Lone Jack, Missouri. Later, the Lilly family moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri where Sam also attended school. Over the years, Sam worked several places eventually starting his own company, Lilly Mechanical.

In 1991, Sam met his wife, Diana Laney. They made their home in several places including Independence, Missouri where they were living at the time of Sam’s death.

Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, hunting mushrooms and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Sam was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who cherished his family and looked forward to time spent with each and every one of them.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Lilly; two sons, Gage and Dillon Lilly and two sisters, Louise Boston and Dorothy Cornelius.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Laney of the home; sons, Nick Lilly and wife Amanda of Wentzville, Missouri, Matthew Lilly of Kansas City, Missouri, Scott Laney and wife Charity of North Kansas City, Missouri and John Laney of Garden City, Missouri; daughters, Jillian (Lilly) Hager and husband Gerald of St. Louis, Missouri, Ashlee Kendrick of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Sara Schrock and husband Daniel of Garden City, Missouri; brothers, Curtis Lilly and Sherry of Springfield, Missouri, Jim Lilly and Jack Truman of Kansas City, Missouri and Keith Lilly and Debbie of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; sisters, Linda Farnsworth and husband Gary of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Genia Merideth and husband Bob of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Mary Gower and husband Frank of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Pam Lilly of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Annette Creel and husband Robin of Kansas City, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandson, other relatives and many, many friends.

The family of Samuel Joseph Lilly will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Lynne Brown officiating. Casket Bearers will be Jason Gower, Justin Gower, Chris Rudder, John Withers, Bob Stears, and Frankie Cardello. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
