PATRICIA ANN “Pat” (Ripberger) KANIES

Patricia Ann “Pat” (Ripberger) Kanies was born July 30, 1937 in Fayette County, Indiana and departed this life on December 22, 2022, surrounded by love of family, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 22 days.

She was the daughter of Frank Martin and Lucille Marie (Snider) Ripberger and the foster daughter of Anthony “Tony” and Margaret Hanloh.

Pat spent her younger years in Indiana and Kentucky, where she attended school. While on a blind date in Owensboro, Kentucky, Pat met a young man named Gerald Anthony “Jerry” Kaines, and on August 26, 1961, Pat and Jerry were married in Tell City, Indiana. After their marriage, they lived in Owensboro, Kentucky. In 1962, Pat and Jerry moved to the Kansas City area where they lived until 1971 when they moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri to make their home.

When Pat was 47 years old, she started the one and only job she ever had outside of her own home, at the Pleasant Hill Veneer Plant, and she loved it!!! She worked at the Pleasant Hill Veneer Plant until her retirement in 1999.

Pat enjoyed garage sales, thrift store shopping, front porch sitting, family visits, Busch Light, and loved Molly, her chihuahua.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Kanies on August 1, 2017; one son, Michael “Mike” Kanies; one grandson, Travis Kanies; her parents, Frank and Lucille Ripberger; foster parents, Anthony “Tony” and Margaret Hanloh; twin brother, John Ripberger; brother, Paul Ripberger and sister, Martha Jean Ripberger.

She is survived by two sons, Tony Kanies of Yuma, Arizona and Bobby Kanies and wife Simone of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; two daughters, Vicky VanLue and husband Brad of Excelsior Springs, Missouri and Nancy Laning and husband Clifford of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Cremation has been accorded and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

    I met Pat when I got a job at the veneer plant working with her and her daughter Nancy I absolutely love Pet she was like a second mom to me. I want to send my prayers to the family. I know Nancy and Tony I worked with them at the veneer plant. Such great people just like their mom. Pat I love you and I am so glad you were my friend.
