Marion E. “Gene” Snow

MARION EUGENE “Gene” SNOW

Marion Eugene “Gene” Snow was born March 3, 1938 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri and departed this life on October 31, 2023 at his home in Leavenworth, Kansas with his daughter, Patricia, by his side.

He was the son of Fred and Katherine May (Johnson) Snow

Gene spent his younger years in the Pleasant Hill and Strasburg, Missouri area, where he attended school. In May of 1955, Gene joined the United States Army where he became a medic. Throughout his military career, Gene was stationed in many states as well as Germany, Korea, France and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring in June of 1975. From 1975 until 1983, Gene worked as a prison guard at the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. Later, he worked in Federal Civil Service at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

In 1960, Gene was united in marriage with Josiane Baillargeau. They were married for 20 years before divorcing in 1980, however, Gene and Josiane remained friends until her passing.

Gene was a loving father who provided guidance, advice and a sense of security for his daughter Patricia. They even formed their own business where he taught her how to buy homes, rentals and land as investments.

Gene loved his pet doggy girls, Daisy, Abby and Skeeter who were almost always by his side.

Gene was a man who possessed common sense and good old fashion know-how, and had a knack for deal-making. He had many friends and his sense of humor and compassion for others naturally drew people to him. Gene was a very generous person always giving to anybody in need. He also enjoyed raising great tomatoes in his garden and would give them away to anyone who wanted them. Gene was also known to buy fresh produce and bakery goods by the truck full and then just give it all away to people who needed or wanted it.

He enjoyed long drives with his daughter where he looked at farms and crops, as well as just enjoying nature and seasonal changes in the countryside. His most recent hobby was going to casinos, where on his birthday this year, he won a $7,500. Jackpot.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Katherine Snow; his former wife, Josiane Snow; one brother, Nathan Snow and one sister, Violet Raffurty.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Josiane Snow of Leavenworth, Kansas; one brother, Jerry Snow of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

A Military Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Military Honors will be presented by the United States Army and V.F.W. Post # 3118 Honor Guard of Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
