KAREN ANN (Staeger) ESTES

Karen Ann (Staeger) Estes was born July 15, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri and departed this life on February 1, 2023 at her home in Venice, Florida, with her daughter, Kimberlee, by her side, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 17 days.

She was the daughter of Earl W. and Virginia Ollie (Tilton) Staeger.

Due to her father’s work as a draftsman, the Staeger family lived many places throughout the United States during Karen’s younger years. In 1961, Karen graduated from high school in San Antonio, Texas. After graduation she moved to Kansas City where she took a position with the Phillips 66 Company.

On November 28, 1964, Karen was united in marriage with Richard Wayne Estes in Kansas City, Missouri and to this union two children, Kimberlee and Daniel, were born. After their marriage, Karen and Richard lived in Raytown, Missouri and Karen became a “stay at home” wife and mother. During this time, Karen, who was an excellent seamstress, started her own sewing and alteration business out of her home in Raytown. In 1982, the Estes family moved to Lone Jack, Missouri and Karen continued to operate her sewing business from her home in Lone Jack until 1987 when she went to work for the Public Water District #15 of Lone Jack, Missouri.

Shortly after her husband’s death on July 3, 1992, Karen moved to Venice, Florida to make her home. Never one to set idle, Karen began volunteering at the local hospital in Venice. She also began taking part in craft shows throughout the area where she sold beautiful crocheted afghans and other handmade sewn items. Karen loved flowers and plants and took great pride in the landscaping she did around her home.

Karen loved her family and looked forward to them visiting her in her Florida home.

In addition to her husband, Richard, Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Virginia Staeger; her son, Daniel Travis Estes; one brother, Earl Staeger, Jr. and her granddaughter, Heather Nichole Brown.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberlee Shaffer of Grain Valley, Missouri; one grandson, Tanner Gerstner and wife Alexandria of Lone Jack, Missouri; one great grandson, Daniel Gerstner, other relatives and many friends.

Graveside service and interment for Karen Ann Estes will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2023 at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, 25203 E. US Hwy 50, Lee’s Summit, Missouri with Rev. Tim Casteel officiating.

Arrangements: Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

I so enjoyed Karen in Venice. We literally attended all the dances and the many restaurants. I considered her my friend we had so many laughs. She will be sincerely missed.
