JOY ANNE (Selover) BROWN

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”  John 11:25-26

Joy Anne (Selover) Brown departed this earth to be with her savior, Jesus Christ on February 2, 2023.

Born on October 1, 1937 in Grand Junction Colorado to George Thomas Selover and Adne Lorraine (Hogan) Selover, Joy’s childhood was lived in Denver Colorado, in Alexander Louisiana, and in New Orleans Louisiana. Just before her senior year in high school her family moved to Raytown Missouri where she  graduated from Raytown High School and afterward  attended Central Missouri State University for a time .  It was during her senior year of high school that she met Jerry Brown who became the love of her life.  They were united in marriage on August 25, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Raytown Missouri.  Over the next five years three daughters were added to their family.  Joy was a beautiful, faithful, kind and loving wife and mother for sixty-six years, four months and one day.

Joy’s gift of hospitality and her endless, selfless generosity made her, as her grandchildren liked to say, “the BEST Granny ever!”  Anyone who visited her home felt welcomed and no one ever left her home hungry.  She worked as an examiner for the IRS and as an electronic assembler at Western Electric. She enjoyed traveling with Jerry in their RV visiting many different places with family and friends. She was also a fan of fishing, camping, and bowling.  Working in her yard, mowing, tending her beautiful flower beds, and most of all entertaining her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren kept her very busy and happy at home. It was her joy in life to attend every activity that her girls, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren were involved in. All who knew here were blessed and she will be forever remembered with so much love.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents George Thomas Selover, and Adne Lorraine (Hogan) Selover. She leaves behind her husband of sixty six years, Gerald (Jerry) W Brown, her sister Patricia Arey and her husband Ken, her daughters; Lori Kay Peace, Elizabeth Jane Bricker and her husband Kevin, Judi Lea Hausmann and her husband Bob, 11 Grandchildren and their spouses, 46 great grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews , cousins and friends.

A celebration of Joy’s life will be held at Strasburg Baptist Church, 503 W Mill St. Strasburg MO 64090 on Saturday March 4th.  Visitation from 12:00-1:00P.M. Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. followed by a meal and time of fellowship.

Lori, so sorry sorry to hear about your mom. It’s good to know when a person like your mom has salvation through Jesus Christ that they are in a better place, but never easy when it comes to missing them. I’ll be praying for you, Courtney and your dad as well as the rest of your family during this time.
