David Edwin Vaughn
David Edwin Vaughn, 80, lifelong resident of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and most recently of Versailles, Missouri, was born December 21, 1944 at Lakeside Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, the firstborn of Harold and Dorothy Lee (Rosenbalm) Vaughn. He departed this life Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the MU Health hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri surrounded by his family.
As an infant, David suffered brain trauma in an accidental fall and faced lifelong health challenges. With the loving care and support of his parents, siblings, family and many friends, David was able to enjoy a long joyful life, far surpassing the expectations of his childhood physicians.
David lived with his parents in Pleasant Hill, Missouri until the passing of his mother in January, 2019, thereafter living with his siblings in Versailles, Pleasant Hill, and Marshalltown, Iowa.
David worked 42 years at the Casco Area Workshop in Harrisonville, Missouri, which his mother helped found and where she served as a long-term board member. He was a member of Grace Family Fellowship (formerly Pleasant Hill First Baptist Church), having been baptized in 1978, and regularly attended the Shining Light Sunday school class for those with special needs.
David loved everything to do with Christmas, including dressing up as Santa Claus for holiday celebrations. He enjoyed shopping, seeing movies and eating popcorn, watching classic TV shows and westerns, collecting hats and stuffed animals, singing with microphones, superheroes, dining out (especially cheeseburgers) and was well-known for keeping close tabs on his billfold (and money). For many years he collected aluminum tabs to donate to Children’s Mercy Hospital fundraising.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and many special friends.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Bill Clark of Versailles, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Chris Vaughn of Marshalltown, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law Rob and Teri Vaughn of Urich, Missouri; seven nieces and nephews, Leeanna (and Donald) Meador of Tipton, Missouri, Ryan Vaughn of Marshalltown, Iowa, Angie Shibe of Marshalltown, Iowa, Aron Vaughn of Marshalltown, Iowa, Katie (and Ben) Deike of Solon, Iowa, Robbie (and Kelly) Vaughn of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Christina (and Patrick) Benware of Urich, Missouri; six great-nieces, six great-nephews; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 pm and funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. I have known the family for as long as I can remember. David was a customer of mine at the bank I worked at. He was always so happy and had a smile on his face every time I saw him. I never met a kinder person that him. My condolences to each every one of you.
