Mary Jean (Green) Yarber-Young

Jean Young was born October 15, 1934 in Blue Springs, Missouri and departed this life on March 4, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family, at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 18 days.

She was the daughter of Thomas Archie and Jessie M. (Sanders) Green.

Jean spent her early years in Blue Springs, Missouri. When she was nine years old, the Green family moved near Oak Grove, Missouri where Jean attended school and graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1952.

 In 1954 Jean moved to Lee’s Summit, then to the Kansas City area to live. In 1964, she moved to Pleasant Hill where she lived until 1980 when she moved to Washington State. Jean returned to Missouri in 1982 and lived in St. Joseph, Missouri. While living in St. Joseph she attended Missouri Western College and obtained her Child Development Certification. After receiving her certification, Jean worked in the children’s ward at St. Joseph State Hospital. Jean moved back to Pleasant Hill in 1999 to make her home.

After returning to Pleasant Hill, Jean worked as a teacher for the Pleasant Hill Head Start Program, and a teacher at the First Baptist Church Daycare Center of Pleasant Hill before her retirement.

Jean had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord. She had formerly served as a Sunday School teacher at Pleasant Hill First Baptist Church, and was currently a member of Echo Church of Pleasant Hill.

Jean’s entire life revolved around her family. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister, and a natural born caregiver.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Young; her parents Thomas and Jessie Green; brother, Raymond Green and twin brother, Dean Green, and sister Dorothy Haase.

She is survived by one son, Bob Yarber and wife Terri of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one daughter, Abby Webb and husband Garrick of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; two brothers, Floyd Green and wife Wanda of Springfield, Missouri, and Jesse Green and wife Irene of Oak Grove, Missouri; step-brother, Richard Pine; step-sister, Patricia Harris of Independence, Missouri; grandchildren, Dan Yarber of Pittsburg, Missouri, Heather Adams and husband David of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Clint Yelton of Houston, Texas; two great grandchildren, Carlee Adams of Lee’s Summit and Macee Adams of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The family of Jean Young will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Funeral Service will immediately follow  at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor J. R. Brown officiating. Casket Bearers will be Clint Yelton, Danny Yarber, Garrick Webb, Carlee Adams, David Adams and Mike Smith. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

    Jean was such a sweet lady. She always made sure she spoke to me at family functions. You will be in my thoughts and prayer daily. If I can do anything for you all let me know. Hold tight your memories they are a big help.

    I worked with Jean in the pre-school class at our church in St. Joseph, MO. We took a trrip to Colorado one summer. She was a good friend that I will look forward to seeing in heaven one day.
