James E. “Jim” Nichols

James Edward “Jim” Nichols was born February 14, 1942 in Holden, Missouri on the Nichols Farm, and departed this life on May 28, 2020, on the same farm and in the same house he was born in, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 14 days.

He was the son of Lawrence Keith and Laura Catherine (Johnson) Nichols.

Jim spent his entire life in Johnson County, Missouri and was a 1960 graduate of Kingsville, Missouri High School.

Jim owned and operated Nichols Gravel Hauling for many years. He also raised cattle.

Jim enjoyed restoring vintage tractors with his son, Brian, and would show them in parades each year in the Johnson County area. He also enjoyed participating in tractor pulls throughout the area.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Keith and Laura Catherine (Johnson) Nichols, and one sister, Shirley Ann (Nichols) Maguffee.

He is survived by one son, Brian Nichols and wife Julie of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one daughter, Kathy Poe and husband Greg of Holden, Missouri; one brother, Lawrence Keith Nichols, Jr. of Raytown, Missouri; seven grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

As Jim requested, cremation has been accorded. The family will host a Celebration of Life to honor James Edward “Jim” Nichols, at a later date.
