Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Thomas C. “Tom” Ewing

Thomas Clark “Tom” Ewing was born October 14, 1949 in Harrisonville, Missouri and departed this life on December 29, 2020, surrounded by the love of family, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 15 days.

He was the son of Clark McClellan “Peck” Ewing and Sarah Kathryn “Kate” (Huber) Ewing.

Tom spent his younger years in Raytown, Missouri, graduating from Raytown South High School in 1967. During his junior high and high school years, Tom worked at his father’s gas station in Raytown, pumping gas after school and on weekends. After graduation he went to work at Armco Steel and became a member of the Steel Workers Union.

On September 16, 1972 Tom was united in marriage with Phyllis I. Henderson. After their marriage they lived in Raytown, Missouri until 1984 when they moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri to make their home. Mrs. Phyllis Ewing preceded Tom in death on July 21, 2013.

Tom Ewing was a man who truly “never met a stranger”, his outgoing personality and love of people led him to many friendships throughout his lifetime. He built a “shop” building at his home, not just to work in but, where he loved to entertain family and friends, telling stories, drinking a beer, talking about hotrods, drag racing and watching NASCAR.

Tom retired from Armco Steel (which later became GST Steel) with 32 years of service. After he retired, he took a position as a delivery driver for Heartland Tan, where he worked for another 10 years.

In addition to his wife Phyllis Ewing, Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Clark McClellan “Peck” and Sarah Kathryn “Kate” Ewing.

He is survived by one son, David Thomas Ewing and wife Kathy of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one daughter, Sarah Lynn Chernisky and husband Brock of Raymore, Missouri; four grandchildren, Dalton Francy, Kate Ewing, Sam Ewing and Andie Chernisky; other relatives and many, many friends.

Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. James Stanfield-Myers, officiating. Casket Bearers will be Dalton Francy, Sam Ewing, Steve Gillis, Bruce Ponder, Chad Driskill and Chris Gross.

I appreciated Tom. He was generous, kind, had a great laugh and took life easy after doing his errands, chores around the house etc. He always came into the beauty shop to chat with the customers: ladies and men who were friends of. Phyllis and Tom for years. We had a lot of laughs. I enjoyed staying with Phyllis and Tom each time I came in the summers from 1997 – 2012 off and on. I got to know them better again as an adult in my 30s when I moved to Lee’s Summit. I am Phylli’s
Cousin on our mom’s side and Tom’s friend through Phylli’s
marriage to him. I was lucky to have known them both.
I am grateful to have known Tom. God bless and keep his family in tender care and mercy. I’m praying for you all David and Sarah, spouses and kids.

David and Sarah, so very sorry about Tom’s passing. I have so many fond (and funny) memories of Tom and Phyllis. They were the one-of-a-kind couple and a big part of my pass. He will be sadly missed.
