Sonny Hooper

Walford Francis “Sonny” Hooper was born August 1, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on October 13, 2016 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, Missouri at the age of 80 years, 2months and 12 days.

He was the son of Hubert James Hooper and Billie Jo (Ballard) Hooper. Sonny graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1955 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January 19, 1956 until December 14, 1959. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Sonny returned to this area living in Jackson County and Cass County until 12 years ago when he moved to El Dorado Springs, Missouri to make his home. Sonny worked as a self-employed carpenter for most of his life. He had been a member of the Carpenters Union in Kansas City, Missouri, the American Legion in Harrisonville, Missouri and the Pleasant Hill Lion’s Club.

He was also a member of the Strasburg Baptist Church. Sonny was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Hubert James and Claire Virginia Hooper; his mother, Billie Jo (Ballard) Hooper; one brother, Billie Hubert Hooper and one sister, Betty Jo Hooper.

He is survived by two sons, Bruce Walford Hooper and wife Leisha of Walker, Missouri, and Kenneth Bryan Hooper and wife Yvonna of Nevada, Missouri; one daughter, Pamela Kaye Hutchison and husband Mike of Goddard, Kansas; four sisters, Mary I. Thomason of Ventura, California, Virginia Hanes and husband David, and Katherine Fleener and husband Bill, all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Charlotte Peters of Harrisonville, Missouri; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

As Sonny requested, cremation has been accorded and no services are scheduled. Arrangements: Wallace Funeral Home
