Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Mary L. Davis

Mary Louise (Stowers) Davis was born January 22, 1928 in Keytesville, Missouri and departed this life on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Truman-Lakewood Long Term Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 25 days.

She was the daughter of Emmett Gray and Edith Juanita (Phillips) Stowers. The Stowers family moved to Grandview, MO. and Mary went to work at Unity Village as a waitress. In the summer of 1947 she met Russel Davis and, after a short courtship, they were united in marriage on October 11, 1947.

After their marriage, Mary and Russel made their home in a small trailer until Russel could build their house at North Prairie Lee Lake in Jackson County, MO. There, they raised two sons, Howard and Harold. For twenty years, Mary cleaned houses in the Lee’s Summit, MO area. Later she worked in various nursing homes until her retirement.

In 1983, after the death of her husband Russel, Mary temporarily moved in with her son Harold. After Harold’s marriage, Mary lived on her own for a while, then, after Harold’s divorce, he and Mary bought a home in Lee’s Summit together where she lived until Harold’s death in 2012. Mary then moved to an apartment until declining health forced her to move to Truman-Lakewood Long Term Care Center where she lived until her death. Mary was baptized in 1984. She enjoyed her trips to WalMart with her son Howard, and they would go twice a week. She loved when one of her grandchildren would host a family gathering and she would get to see her grandkids and great grandkids. Once when she was in the hospital, everyone showed up at the same time, unplanned, but she kept thanking Howard for bringing them all together.

Mary was a hard working woman, now it is time for her to rest without all the pain. You will be missed. In addition to her husband, Russel and her son, Harold, Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Edith Stowers and one brother, Bill Stowers.

She is survived by her son, Howard Wayne Davis and wife Shirley of Raymore, MO; 6 grandchildren, Frank W. Davis and wife Dawn of Peculiar, MO, Monte L. Davis and wife Joli of Lee’s Summit, MO, Stacey A. Orskog and husband Shawn of Leavenworth, Kansas, Angela M. Davis, Harold R. Davis, Jr. and Christina S. Davis; nine great grandchildren, Zachery W. Davis, Nathan R. Davis, Dalton L. Davis, Samantha A. Davis, Clair A. Orskog, Conner T. Orskog, Taylor, Megan and Isacc; one great-great granddaughter, Rylee Ann Marie Davis, other relatives and many friends.

The family of Mary Louise Davis will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until funeral service time at 2:00 p.m. on Monday September 19, 2016 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, MO with Rev. Tim Casteel officiating. Pallbearers will be Zachery Davis, Nathan Davis, Frank Davis, Monte Davis, Howard Davis, Shawn Orskog and Conner Orskog.

Burial will be in the Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery, Lee’s Summit, MO.
