
JOYCE ELIZABETH (Barnes) McDAVITT
Joyce Elizabeth (Barnes) McDavitt was born July 9, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on September 24, 2025 at Jefferson Health Care Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 15 days.
Joyce was one of two children born to Gilbert “Lee” and Virginia Elizabeth (Lutz) Barnes.
Joyce spent her younger years in Independence, Missouri, graduating from Van Horn High School in 1963. On July 14, 1963, Joyce was united in marriage with the love of her life, Clayton McDavitt. After their marriage they lived in Independence, Missouri for a few years before moving to Pleasant Hill to make their home and become part of the community.
Joyce had a heart for volunteering, working with Pleasant Hill Public Schools and the Pleasant Hill Public Library. She started delivering meals for Pleasant Hill Meals on Wheels and eventually became a member of their board where she served as Treasurer. Joyce was a dedicated member of the Pleasant Hill Church of Christ congregation.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was completely devoted to her family. She will be remembered fondly for all the love she shared. Joyce loved her family and she loved the church.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert “Lee” and Virginia Elizabeth Barnes and her sister, Judy Hinrichs.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clayton Charles McDavitt of the home; son, Brian McDavitt and wife Angie of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter, Tammie Evans and husband Kelly of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; grandchildren, Tyler Evans and wife Macy and, Kaitlin Heinrich and husband Joe; other relatives and many friends.
The family of Joyce Elizabeth McDavitt will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2025 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the funeral home, with Tyler Evans officiating and speaker, Evangelist Jerry Dickinson. Casket Bearers will be Kelly Evans, Joe Heinrich, Jacob Sperber, Jason McDavitt, Chris McDavitt and Jeff Hinrichs. Honorary Bearers are Paul McDavitt, Larry Simpson, Jerry Richardson and Othello McDavitt. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
