Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Joan (Graham) Mead

Joan Mead was born September 20, 1938 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri and departed this life on July 28, 2021 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 8 days.

She was the daughter of Lawrence Richard and Pearl M. (Ashe) Graham.

Joan was a lifetime resident of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and attended school in Pleasant Hill. On October 11, 1954, she was united in marriage with Larry K. Mead and they established their home in Pleasant Hill. Mr. Larry K. Mead preceded Joan in death on May 28, 2003 and Joan continued to make her home in Pleasant Hill.

Joan was a daycare provider for many years and loved “all her kids”. She enjoyed traveling and went on several cruises. She also enjoyed going to dinner theaters with her friends. But most of all, Joan loved her family. She had a very special relationship with her great-grandson, Richard. Joan will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She will also be greatly missed for her hot rolls and her noodles!!! The Graham boys will never be the same without her.

Joan was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

In addition to her husband, Larry, Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Pearl Graham; two sons, infant Larry K. Mead, Jr. and Bradley Mead and one infant sister, Charlotte Graham.

She is survived by one son, Barry Mead and wife Belinda of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one brother, Rick Graham and wife Vicki of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one granddaughter, Dani (Mead) Castro and husband Michael of Belton, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Richard Mead, Sean Mead, Maya Flaugher, Audrey Castro and Isabella Castro; nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Due to the sudden increase in the delta variant covid cases in this area, the family of Joan Mead will have a private graveside service at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. Preston Sanders officiating. Casket Bearers are Mike Graham, Brian Graham, Richard Graham, Lawson Graham, Richard Mead, Sean Mead and Michael Castro. Honorary Bearer will be Dean Graham.

The family suggests contributions, in memory of Donna Joan Mead, to St. Croix Hospice, and may be mailed to 1626 E. Elm, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701. (If sending a check, please note “Donna Joan Mead” on the memo line.)

So sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. She was a truly beautiful woman inside and out. Lots of fun memories of pet raccoons and talking Chihuahuas.
