Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Glenda S. (Dawson) Breckenridge

Glenda Sue (Dawson) Breckenridge was born August 20, 1954, in Kansas City, Kansas and departed this life on May 6, 2022, at her home in Olathe, Kansas, surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 16 days.

She was the daughter of Glen Olen Dawson, Sr. and Barbara Ann (Capps) Dawson.

The Dawson family lived several places throughout Glenda’s younger years, including Afton, Oklahoma and Liberty, Missouri before moving to Pleasant Hill, Missouri in 1966 to make their home. Glenda was a 1972 graduate to Pleasant Hill High School. After graduation, Glenda went to work for the Bache Investment Firm in Kansas City, Missouri.

On February 1, 1974, Glenda was united in marriage with Gary Breckenridge in Pleasant Hill, Missouri and they made their home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. In 1975, Gary joined the United States Air Force. During Gary’s Air Force career the Breckenridge family was stationed first in Texas, then in California. After Gary’s honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1978, the Breckenridge family lived in Oklahoma for two years before moving to Olathe, Kansas in January of 1980.

After her children were in school, Glenda accepted a position with the Bayer Corporation as an administrative secretary, where she worked for over 14 years until declining health forced her retirement.

When her health permitted, Glenda enjoyed traveling and going to the Lake of the Ozarks with her family where she enjoyed boating. She also enjoyed soap operas, her cats, and was an avid reader.

Above all else, Glenda loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them. She looked forward to any family gatherings, especially “Taco Frys on Friday” at her parent’s house. Glenda loved to provide extravagant Christmases for her family and those she loved, and if it snowed, it was even better as she dearly loved snow. She was a loving wife, mother and sister, but the highlight of her life was being “Meme” to her granddaughter, Cheyenne.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Glen Dawson, Sr. and Barbara Dawson.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Breckenridge of the home; son, Brandon Breckenridge of Wilmington, North Carolina; daughter, Stacey Thomas and husband Kirk of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; brother, Glen “Dusty” Dawson Jr. and wife Linda of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; half-brother, Tom Higdon and wife Gayle of Newtonia, Missouri; sisters, Barbara Ann Phebus and husband Raymond of Quapaw, Oklahoma, Linda Miller and husband Jan Henry of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Dianna Heminger and husband Wayne of Gardner, Kansas; granddaughter, Cheyenne; other relatives and many friends.

The family of Glenda Sue (Dawson) Breckenridge will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2022, at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Kent Deubner officiating. Casket Bearers will be Brandon Breckenridge, Johnny Breckenridge, J. D. Miller, Kirk Thomas, Braxton Gonzalez and Dawson Heeney. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
