Butch (Walter) Corbello

BUTCH (WALTER) CORBELLO

In Loving Memory

Butch (Walter) Corbello of Pleasant Hill, Missouri passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the age of 80.

He was born January 5, 1945, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and later moved to Eunice, Louisiana. From a young age, he had a love for working cattle in the marshes of Cameron and Creole. By the age of 10, he had already developed a strong work ethic—pulling a push mower behind his bicycle to mow lawns around town.

In high school, he served as an FFA officer and worked as a farm hand when he wasn’t in class. He took up rodeo, competing in steer wrestling and bull riding—a passion he carried with him into college. During summers, he worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico as a roustabout to help pay for his education. He was a member of his college livestock judging team and earned a national individual championship in horse judging.

In 1968, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served until 1970, working in animal research facilities and post veterinary clinics—assignments he truly loved.

As a young adult, he continued his involvement in rodeo by judging high school events across Louisiana alongside his brother, Cecil, and he competed in team roping at the amateur level. He owned and managed a 62-acre farm with both feeder calves and cow-calf.

His professional journey began with the Farmer’s Home Administration, where he was among the first to broker small business loans. That experience opened the door to a career in commercial banking, eventually leading to an executive role at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. When that position ended, he was welcomed into a senior vice president role at Dickinson Financial Corporation, where he worked until his retirement.

In 1992, he and his family relocated to Missouri—a place he quickly came to love for its values, faith, and rural lifestyle. As a husband and father, he was steady, present, and deeply devoted. He poured his heart into supporting three of his daughters through years of rodeo and barrel racing, a tradition he stayed involved in until his final days. But his support didn’t stop there—he was the kind of father and grandfather who showed up, every time. Whether it was dance, competitive cheer, music, art shows, sports, or livestock competitions, he was there—cheering, encouraging, and beaming with pride. His quiet strength, unwavering presence, and genuine joy in his family’s accomplishments made him the backbone of every gathering. He wasn’t just supportive—he was the biggest fan, the steady guide, and hero.

For 16 years, he battled cancer with unwavering strength and determination. He never let it slow him down. He continued to travel, camp, and ride horses—covering 17 states with his wife and horses.

He was also an excellent chef and baker, known for his Cajun cooking and wild game dishes. He could dress game with precision and care, a skill he took pride in. Signature meals like gumbo, seafood pasta, mountain oysters, and turtle sauce piquante were favorites among both family and friends—meals made with love, shared often, and remembered fondly.

A man of many talents and interests, he enjoyed the arts, live theater, musicals, and reading—especially the Bible, historical nonfiction, and mysteries. He could repair vehicles and farm equipment, took on countless handyman projects, and even came up with a few inventions of his own.

Most of all, he cherished time spent with family and friends. His warmth, humor and strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Butch was preceded in death by his father, Walter Corbello and mother Nellie Holland Corbello. He is survived by Tippy (Patricia),his wife of 57 years, daughters Kirsten Dodson(Eric), Jill Corbello, Susan Corbello (Scott Becker), Ashley Corbello (Mario Mora), Jennifer Ramaeker (Jason). Grandchildren Tyler Dodson, Kailey Dodson, Allison Rabe, Brody Ramaeker, Clay Ramaeker. Brother, Cecil Corbello (Janet), Nephew Jesse Corbello (Naomi), Niece Karrie LaFleur (Kevin)

I’m so fortunate to have known him—and I’m better for it. He was the kind of man most strive to be, the kind of father we all hope for, and the kind of friend everyone would be lucky to have. Many hugs and prayers to his family and friends.
