Barney Mantzey

Barney Joe Mantzey was born January 15, 1947 in Bogard, Missouri and departed this life on November 10, 2015 at his home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 25 days. He was the son of Raymond M. and Donna J. (Bush) Mantzey.

Barney lived most of his adult life in the Jackson and Cass County area. He graduated from Lone Jack High School in 1965. Barney continued his education, obtaining an Aircraft Mechanic Certification.

Barney proudly served his country in the United States Army from May 9, 1966 until April 20, 1968. After his honorable discharge from the military, Barney returned to the family farm in Cass County.

On June 19, 1971, Barney was united in marriage with Linda Alice Holmes at the Lone Jack Baptist Church and to this union five children were born.

Barney was a cabinet maker and worked for several cabinet shops, including Sitka & Paxton throughout his lifetime. He also worked for a trophy shop.

Barney was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church, Jewel Lodge #480 A.F. & A.M. of Pleasant Hill and Carpenters Union Local #315 of Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Donna Mantzey and one brother, Eugene Mantzey.

Barney is survived by his wife, Linda A. (Holmes) Mantzey of the home; four sons, Raymond Mantzey of Troy, Alabama, Bradley Mantzey and wife Jessica of Lone Jack, Missouri, James Mantzey of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Byron Mantzey of Blue Springs, Missouri; one daughter, Cherie Mantzey of Harrisonville, Missouri; one brother Ronald Mantzey and wife Peggy of San Bernardino, California; one sister, Sharon (Mantzey) Finklea of Calera, Alabama; six grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

The family of Barney Mantzey will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill.

Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri with Military Honors. Rev. Jim Richards will officiate.

Honorary Bearers will be Raymond Mantzey, Bradley Mantzey, James Mantzey, Byron Mantzey, Ricky Hernandez, Erik Mantzey, Ronald Mantzey and Luke Richards.
