MARILYN KAY (Orr) MORRIS
Marilyn Kay (Orr) “Mino” Morris was born August 16, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on September 23, 2025 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 7 days.
She was the daughter of Louis M. and Frances L. (Wangler) Orr.
Marilyn spent her younger years in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating from East High School in 1963 where she was a member of the synchronized swim team.
After graduation, Marilyn worked for Montgomery Wards for a few years before going to work for the Missouri University Extension Office of Cass County in Harrisonville, Missouri, where she worked for 20 years. She then took a position with the Cass County Recorder of Deeds Office in Harrisonville, where she became an accounting clerk, retiring from that position after 17 years of service.
Marilyn married Bill Morris and became a loving step-mother to his three children. Bill passed away in 1989 and Marilyn continued to live in the family home.
Marilyn was given the nickname “Mino” by her niece, Laura. When Laura was a little girl, she could not pronounce the name Marilyn, but what she came up with was what sounded like Mino and Marilyn loved it, so she became Aunt Mino to her nieces, nephews.
After the death of her husband Bill, Marilyn met Jerry McKellips who became her constant companion for 35 years.
Marilyn enjoyed horseback riding and in her younger years barrel racing. She also enjoyed her dogs, shooting pool, camping, cooking and trying out new recipes. But what Marilyn loved the most was spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Marilyn will be lovingly remembered as a person who always gave to other people, worrying more about others than herself. She never failed to send birthday cards to family and friends and loved to make costume jewelry and gift to them.
Marilyn was a former member of Leeds Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri and had been a member of the East Lynne Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to her husband Bill, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Louis M. and Frances Orr; brother, Louis W. Orr and brother-in-law, David L. Anderson.
She is survived by her significant other, Jerry McKellips of the home; brother, Dale Orr and wife Jessica of Independence, Missouri; sister, Peggy Anderson of Overland Park, Kansas; step-children, Kevin Morris and wife Verna of Overland Park, Kansas, Shannon Morris of Blue Springs, Missouri and, Leslie England and husband Russ of Blue Springs, Missouri; two step-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and many friends, and of course, her beloved dog, Rex.
