Crystal Reneé Guhr was born November 16, 1978 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on June 7, 2021 at her home in Garden City, Missouri at the age of 42 years, 6 months, 22 days.
She was the daughter of Maelynn (Huff) McGarvey and David Earl Guhr.
Crystal spent her younger years in Garden City, Missouri where she attended Sherwood School and exceled in track and was a cheerleader. Her senior year, the family moved to Stilwell, Kansas where she graduated from Blue Valley High School in 1997. Crystal joined the United States Marine Corp on May 27, 1998 and proudly served her country until May 26, 2002. During her exemplary military career, Crystal was the first woman inducted into the Marine Corp Boxing Hall of Fame.
On March 14, 2014, Crystal was gifted with her baby boy, Shiloh, and from that moment on, committed her life to raising him. She became a full time Mommy and homemaker. Everything she did was for Shiloh, her world revolved around him.
Crystal did enjoy running, dancing and cooking, but the activities she enjoyed the most were the ones she and Shiloh participated in together, such as playing basketball.
In April of 2020, Crystal and Shiloh moved back to Garden City, Missouri to make their home.
Crystal was preceded in death by her beloved step-father, Michael McGarvey.
She is survived by her son, Shiloh; her mother, Maelynn McGarvey of Garden City, Missouri; her father, Dave Guhr and wife Katie of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; brother, David E. Guhr, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; sister Jillian Guhr of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; stepbrother, Samuel Little of Kansas City, Missouri; step-grandparents, Michael Riordan of Bates City, Missouri and, Karen and Darold Hendrickson of Fontana, Kansas; several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Funeral Service with Full Military Honors will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Craig Otto officiating. Military Funeral Honors will be presented by the United States Marine Corp and V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at a later date and will be private.

Wow first woman ever to be inducted into the Marine Boxing Hall of Fame. I didn’t know her but just reading this she lived an amazing life and was very fond of her child indeed. Rest in heaven….

This is a hard pill to swallow. I haven’t seen Crystal since I left Camp Lejeune in 2002. I had the pleasure of taking her to the 2000 Marine Corp Ball and also spent New Year 2000 at her family home in Missouri. What a great loss. She will be dearly missed and loved always. See you again on the other side.
