Willetta M. Lowry

Willetta May (Garrison) Lowry was born December 11, 1926 in Independence, Missouri and departed this life on December 6, 2016 at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 25 days.

She was the daughter of William Loyd and Myrtle (Leeper) Garrison.

Willetta spent her younger years, and attended school, in Independence, Missouri. On May 21, 1945 she was united in marriage with Herbert Kyle Lowry in Kansas City, Kansas, where they lived for a short time before moving to Golden City, Missouri. In 1951 the Lowry family moved to the Pleasant Hill area to make their home.

Willetta was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a sweet and loyal friend to many. Her whole world revolved around her family and the love of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Willetta was an active and dedicated member of the Open Door Full Gospel Church of Pleasant Hill, Missouri. She not only talked about the Gospel teachings, but truly lived her life according to those teachings. Over the years, Willetta opened her door and arms to everyone in need, and became a surrogate mother and grandmother to many. She was a symbol of strength, dignity and grace in the face of adversity to all who knew her.

Willetta was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lowry; her parents, William Loyd and Myrtle Garrison; one son, Richard Ruby-Lowry; two daughters, Willa (Lowry) Noland and Amy (Lowry) King; two grandson, Richard, Jr. and Michael; five brothers and one sister. She is survived by three sons, Roger Lowry and wife Neta, Tim Lowry and wife Susan, and Curt Lowry; two daughters, Patricia (Lowry) Wheeldon, and Linda (Lowry) Slevin and husband Bill, all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; 24 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral Service for Willetta M. Lowry will be conducted from the Wallace Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 with Rev. Dennis Gulley, Rev. Roger Nichols and Rev. Lance Nichols officiating. Casket Bearers will be Alex Yocum, Nick Wheeldon, Terry Nichols, Sr., Terry Nichols, Jr., Dustin Lowry, Jonathan Seaman, Max Chao, Kyle Lowry, Zach Munro, and Nathan Wheeldon. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the funeral home.
