Virgil J. Ponder

Virgil James Ponder, born December 15, 1939; Died June 15, 2016; Virgil died peacefully and at home as prayed for by family and friends. He was united in marriage to Roberta Taylor June 6, 1960 who survives.

He is also survived by five children and their families. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family as a member of the construction laborers union Local #264. He also had a plumbing business here locally for many years.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents Leve Virgil and Lelia Marie (Connell) Ponder; one son-in-law, Mike Thompson; one brother, Carl Ponder; one sister, Flora Cusick and one sister-in-law, Norma Ponder.

In addition to his wife, Roberta of the home, he is survived by his children and their families, Jim and Debbie of Lone Jack, Mo. and their son Homer and his children David, Joseph and Grace; Roy and Teresa, of Sumterville, Fl. and their sons and spouses, Cody and Meagen and their daughter Zoey Jane of Navarre, Fl. and Alex and Alyssa of Panama City Fl.; Becky Thompson of Kingsville, Mo.; Bruce and Jamie and their children, Kendal and Lukas of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; Ronnie and his daughter Hannah of Pleasant Hill, Mo. He is also survived by his brother Leo Ponder, and brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Dorothy Ponder all of Pleasant Hill, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral Service for Mr. Virgil Ponder will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with Rev. Tony Reynolds officiating. Casket Bearers will be Armen Elms, Chuck Baldwin, Curtis Nulsen, John Stodgell, Kenneth Radamacher, and Rooster Devine. Honorary Bearers are his eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, at the funeral home.
