Mary Wright

Mary Eleanie (Hoen) Wright was born August 1, 1941 in Los Angeles, California and departed this life on April 20, 2016 at The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 19 days. She was the daughter of John Frank and Gladys (Kirkman) Hoen.

Mary spent most of her life in Pleasant Hill, and attended Pleasant Hill Schools. On August 22, 1965, Mary was united in marriage with Ralph “Butch” Wright and they continued to make their home in Pleasant Hill.

Mary was a beautician, first working for Dimple Sartin at Kut & Kurl Beauty Shop and later, for Georgia Dillon at Courtesy Beauty Shop, both in Pleasant Hill. Later, Mary became owner and operator of Wright’s Upholstery Shop, also located in Pleasant Hill. For several years, she was a bus driver for the Pleasant Hill School District.

In 1989, Mary and Butch moved to their farm in Adrian, Missouri, where she enjoyed gardening and was dedicated to the care and rescue of animals in need. Mary’s life revolved around her family, especially her daughters and grandchildren. Before moving to Adrian, Mary had been a member of the Assembly of God Church of Pleasant Hill.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John Frank and Gladys Hoen, and one grandson, Corey Gibbons.

She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Butch Wright of the home; two daughters, Mellissa (Wright) Gibbons and husband Ron of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Rhonda (Wright) Walley and husband Jay of Adrian, Missouri; five grandchildren, Crystal Hunter, Kyle Gibbons, and Trever Wilson all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Conrad Walley and Anna Walley both of Adrian, Missouri; numerous great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Hazel Quinn and husband Jack of Blue Springs, Missouri, Barbara Clawson and husband Bill of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Mary Samantha Johnson and husband Gary of Vanning, California, and Judy Todd and husband Mike of Harrisonville, Missouri; her other favorite daughter, Sandie Cooper of Harrisonville, Missouri, other relatives and many friends.

The family of Mary E. Wright will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Alexander officiating. Casket Bearers are Ron Gibbons, Jay Walley, Kyle Gibbons, Butch Hunter, Trever Wilson and Conrad Walley. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill, Cemetery.
