Marieta Prewitt

Marieta, 93 years old, passed away peacefully at home on November 1st, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Marieta was the daughter of WWI Veteran, John Timberlake and Addie Staggers Timberlake. She grew up in the Lebanon, Kansas, area, where her family were sharecroppers. Marieta lived through hardships of the Great Depression, through the dust bowl and locust plague, they moved every year in pursuit of a bountiful crop, this taught her to be resourceful, a hard worker, and to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. Marieta changed schools at least ten times as a child. She rode across the prairie on a pony, by clinging to her brother to attend a one room school.
In the 8th grade Marieta and her parents moved to Pleasant Hill to care for her grandfather, A. I. Staggers, where she thrived and blossomed in the community and remained a lifelong resident. She demonstrated her Christianity throughs acts of unconditional love by volunteering as a Cub Scout Den Mother, life member and Noble Grand of the Bertha Rebekah Lodge 31, delivering Meals on Wheels, member and one time President of the Pleasant Hill Junior Study Club, past President of the Cass County Medical Center Auxiliary and Pink Lady, as well as serving on the Cemetery Board for 29 years. She was loyal and dedicated to her family, friends, community and sports teams through the good and bad times.

Marieta was vibrant with a large smile, quick to laugh, and her beautiful spirit showed through to everyone. She recycled even before it was the “norm”, was very generous with unconditional love and giving of her time. Marieta displayed warmth, kindness, and a resourcefulness to resolve problems with a sharp mind and humor throughout it all. She was elegant, always dressed up, and lived each and every moment to the fullest. Her motto was to use honey instead of vinegar and, if in doubt, always over dress.

Marieta was a die hard, KC Royals and Chiefs sports fan, whose loyalty and dedication never waivered, she stood behind them in the rock bottom and the glorious years. Marieta never missed watching a game or listening to the radio, she loved her boys, marveled at their team spirit, she cheered and supported unconditionally, while keeping records for every game; fan attendance, final score, and key plays. Every year was “Our Year.” Marieta kept a year round KC shrine, in her home in support of her boys.

And so it is fitting that in the bottom of the 11th inning and only moments away from her “KC Royals boys” clinching their second World Series Championship, that Marieta took her last breath. The “life of every party,” Marieta surely found a way to be a part of the biggest party that Kansas City has seen in 30 years. Marieta is surely partying like it’s 1985.
Marieta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph R. Prewitt, brother, Gerald Timberlake and great-grandson, Matt Prewitt.

She is survived by her Daughter, Glenda Ketchum and husband Frank; Son, Ronald Prewitt and wife Orvalene; Grandchildren: Debra Ketchum, Rodney Prewitt and wife Jennifer, Larry Heide and wife Jennifer, Jeff Ketchum and wife Darla, and Shauna Prewitt; Great grandchildren: Marcus Prewitt, Austin Prewitt, Mitchell Ketchum, Blake Bond, Mariah Ketchum, and Isabella Prewitt; Great great-granddaughters: McKenna Prewitt and Opie Prewitt.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on November 5, 2015 at 12:30 PM, at Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Funeral services will commence at 2 pm, followed by grave-side services at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In Memory of Marieta Prewitt the Family suggests contributions to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery or the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
