Larry Duane Jones was born July 24, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on May 26, 2016 at his home in Pleasant Hill, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 2 days. He was the son of Ewing Albert and Eva Margaret (Allison) Jones.
The Jones family lived in Kansas City until 1954 when they moved to Independence, Missouri. Larry attended school in Independence and graduated from Van Horn High School in 1964. Although he was just 17 years old, and needed his parent’s permission, Larry joined the United States Marines and proudly served his country in Vietnam and several other places. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, Larry came back to the Kansas City area and played baseball for the Kansas City Athletics minor league until a knee injury ended his career. After his baseball career ended, Larry went to work for his brother at Dialatron, he then accepted a position with Raynor Overhead Door Company as a manager. Later, he became a salesman, working for several car dealerships in the Kansas City area where he was promoted to sales manager and eventually general manager. During his 30 year career at various car dealerships, Larry won several “Ford 500 Awards”, many “Salesman of the Month” and “Salesman of the Year” awards and earned several wonderful trips. Eight years ago Larry started LD’s Trucking.
On December 2, 1981, Larry was united in marriage with Ronda L. Page in Independence, Missouri. They lived in Lee’s Summit and Grain Valley before moving to Pleasant Hill seven years ago to make their home.
Larry lived life to the fullest and had a personality that naturally drew people to him. He was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan, he cherished the traveling he and Ronda did and the cruises they were able to take, but most of all Larry loved and treasured his family and friends. He felt he and Ronda had been blest throughout their life together.
Larry was a member of the Fairmont Christian Church in Fairmont, Missouri and V.F.W. Post #1829 of Kansas City, Missouri.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ewing and Eva Jones; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Louise Jones, one infant sister; his mother-in-law, Effie Page Cusick; his father-in-law, Edwin Page and one sister-in-law, Brenda Gregg.
He is survived by his wife, Ronda L. Jones of the home; one daughter, Averi Desirae Jones of Olathe, Kansas, one granddaughter, Adriana Sophia Hernandez; one sister, Patricia Anne (Jones) McFadin of Hunington Beach, California. One sister-in-law, Vianna Baker of Pleasant Hill, MO; nieces, Kim Hill (Dave) of Buckner, MO and Nicole Bover (Craig) of Lake Lotawana, MO; nephews, Gregg Jones (Dee) of Blue Springs, MO, Mike McFadin of Newport Beach, California, Patrick McFadin (Amy) of Orange, California, other relatives and many, many friends.
Per Larry’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, with Rev. Kent Deubner officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corp and V.F.W. Post #3118 of Pleasant Hill. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
