James E. Zimmerman was born November 19, 1939 in Peculiar, Missouri and departed this life on June 27, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 8 days.
He was the son of Marion E. and Flora Neola (Deshazer) Zimmerman.
James was a lifelong Cass County, Missouri resident, graduating from Cleveland High School, Cleveland, Missouri in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Army while still in high school and proudly served his country.
On June 18, 1963 James was united in marriage with Ruth Elaine Odom in Freeman, Missouri. After their marriage, James and Ruthie made their home in Cleveland, Missouri. While still in high school, James worked construction with his father, Marion, later he went to work for General Motors as an assembler and retired from General Motors with 31 years of service.
James was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a devout Christian and an active member of the Cleveland First Baptist Church. James was also a member of UAW Local #93.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Flora Zimmerman, and one brother, Carl Eugene Zimmerman.
James is survived by his wife, Ruthie Zimmerman of the home; one daughter Lori Evans and husband Richard of Freeman, Missouri; one sister Bonnie June Sanders and husband James of Carthage, Missouri; three granddaughters, Lauren, Hannah and Kathryn Evans; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service for James E. Zimmerman will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Cleveland First Baptist Church with Brother Henry Green officiating. Casket Bearers will be Benny Odom, Everett Zimmerman, Robert Zimmerman, Don Winchel, Dennis Lueker, Greg Kagarice, and Travis Sanders. Honorary Bearers will be Richard Evans, Jim Bain, Don Keeran, Travis Richter, Howard Mitchell, James Sanders, Clark Martin, George Zimmerman, Richard Zimmerman and Bo White. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M, one hour prior to service, at the church. Burial will be in Glenwild Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army and V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard of Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
