Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Doris M. (Fogle) Jones

Doris May (Fogle) Jones was born June 20, 1929 in Independence, Missouri and departed this life on October 29, 2020 at Beautiful Savior Care Center in Belton, Missouri at the age of 91 years, 4 months and nine days.

She was the daughter of Alva Roy Fogle, Sr. and Ellen May (Harrell) Fogle.

Doris was raised on the family farm in Belton, Missouri, and attended Belton High School.

On September 14, 1947, she was united in marriage with Chester M. Jones in Kansas City, Missouri. After their marriage they lived in several locations before settling in Cleveland, Missouri in 1964. Mr. Jones passed away on January 2, 1991, and Doris continued to live in Cleveland until her health began to decline last year.

In her younger years, Doris was employed at Sears and Roebuck, Katz Drug Store and Clover Leaf Nursery for a short time before becoming a full-time homemaker. Until the last five years, Doris had more energy than anyone. She was very independent and enjoyed tending to her own lawn and flowers.

Doris’ hobbies included gardening, spending time with family, and sports. In the summer you would find her window seal full of fresh tomatoes ripening that she had picked, or the family helping harvest the vegetables and snapping green beans. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids, babysitting, attending the sports events of those who lived close, traveling to see those that were far, and having some visit for a week each summer for a special time of spoiling. Doris was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Royals, Chiefs and NASCAR on TV. In recent years you would find her working word search puzzles and watching western movies.

Doris was known for her famous Thanksgiving dressing, fried fish, ice tea, cupcakes, and always having popsicles in the freezer for the kids.

You would frequently find Doris sitting outside in the glider, enjoying the outdoors and awaiting a “drop in visitor”. She always savored special times when family and friends would stop by, and you would usually receive an escort to the end of the drive when it was time to leave, as she did not want you to go.

Doris was loved dearly and will be missed.

In addition to her husband Chester Marvin Jones, Sr., Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Alva Roy Fogle, Sr. and Ellen May Fogle; one son, Chester Marvin Jones, Jr.; one daughter, Beverly Jones; one sister, Shirley Johnson, and one grandson, Jesse Jones.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Jones, Sr. and wife Donna of Cleveland, Missouri, and Roy Jones and wife Darlene of Franklin, North Carolina; one brother, Alva R. Fogle, Jr. and wife Lavon of Blue Springs, Missouri; Five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Graveside Service and Interment for Mrs. Doris May Jones will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Glenwild Cemetery, near Cleveland, Missouri, with pastor Stoney Shaw officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers are her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
