Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Clyde W. McConville

Clyde William McConville was born August 28, 1930 in Kingsville, Missouri and departed this life on March 2, 2021 at his home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 2 days.

He was the son of Ernest R. and Lucy (Pope) McConville. Clyde lost his mother when he was just 2 years old, but, throughout life he was blessed with two loving and supportive step-mothers, Martha (Wheeldon) McConville and Pauline (Gillespie) McConville.

Clyde spent most of his life in the Kingsville/Holden area where he attended school. On September 28, 1948, Clyde joined the United States Army and was immediately assigned to an Honor Detail which traveled throughout the Midwest performing Military Funeral Honors for deceased service members. He was honorably discharged from active duty on September 27, 1949 and returned home. On November 9, 1950, Clyde was recalled to active duty and spent the next 9 months on the front lines during the Korean War. On September 23, 1951, Clyde was again honorably discharged from active duty and returned home.

On July 10, 1952 Clyde was united in marriage with Norma Jean Cotter in Bentonville, Arkansas and they made their home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri while Clyde built their home in Holden, Missouri. They moved to their new home in Holden in 1956 and remained there until June of 2017 when they moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Clyde worked in lumber yards most of his life. He held the position of yard foreman at Logan-Moore in Raytown, Missouri, and Diamond Lumber Yard in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. After Diamond lumber closed, Clyde, along with his son-in-law, Clearence Burks started their own lumberyard in Holden, Missouri. After retiring from the lumber business, and being the “workaholic” that Clyde was, he took a position with the Lee’s Summit School District as a custodian, working there until declining health forced his retirement in 2009.

Clyde was always an outgoing and friendly person who loved to talk and visit with anyone and everyone. He thoroughly enjoyed going to breakfast with his brother Roy and their friends at “Brownie’s Café” in Holden, Missouri. Even after Clyde lost his eyesight, Roy would pick him up and take him to breakfast at the café so he could continue his visits with his friends.

Clyde was a member of V.F.W. Post #5844 of Holden Missouri and was a member of their Honor Team.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest R. and Lucy (Pope) McConville; his stepmothers, Martha (Wheeldon) McConville and Pauline (Gillespie) McConville; two brothers, Ralph McConville and Roy McConville and one sister, Mary Dell Brown.
