Helping Families and Friends Honor Loved Ones Since 1959

Betty J. (Skeens) Anderson

On June 21, 2020, Betty went to be with our Lord from her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was a Lee’s Summit, Mo. resident for 64 years.  Born in LaCyne, Kansas on June 19, 1928 to John Walthall and Iva Lourene Skeens, Betty grew up in Grandview, Missouri graduating from Grandview High School in 1947.  She was a majorette and drummer in the high school band.
Betty worked as a waitress in Grandview and then worked in the local doctor’s office for Dr. Sam Hoeper.  She then ventured to Peck’s Department Store in downtown Kansas City, Mo. working in drapery retail sales.  After marriage, Betty became a wonderful homemaker and the Mother of six children, Floyd N Anderson Jr. (Susie), Lee’s Summit, Mo., Donna Muehlebach (Bob), Nathrop, Colorado, Debra Murry, Lee’s Summit, Mo., Diane Clarke, Warrensburg, Mo., Denise Anderson, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Dixie Day, Nevada, Mo.
She taught her children respect for themselves and others, work ethics, selflessness and love for one another as well as kindness and care for those in need.  When her children were grown, Betty went to work at Walmart in Lee’s Summit finding new friends and co-workers she loved so much.  She retired 28 years later at the young age of 83 years old.  After Betty retired, she loved cooking for her family, shopping and adding to her jewelry collection, movie nights, slumber parties, dining out and simply being with her family and friends.  Betty leaves her six children, daughter-in-law, son-in -law, thirteen beautiful grandchildren, 17 precious great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews and brother, Joe Skeens, Grain Valley, Mo.  Those going home before her were her parents, John and Iva Skeens, brother, Charles Skeens, sisters, June Westmoreland and Minnie Kilby Davis, son-in-law, Ronald Murry, grandson’s wife, Stephanie, niece, Janet and nephew, Jimmy.  Family Only Celebration of Life will be held at Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Mo. on July 2, 2020.  Betty will be laid to rest at Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Betty requested donations to the American Cancer Society.
