Floyd R. "Tony" Long

Floyd “Tony” Long was born August 4, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri and departed this life on May 5, 2017 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 1 day.
He was the son of Leonard C. and Irma Cathryn (Shuert) Long. Tony spent his younger years in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, graduating from Lee’s Summit High School in 1963. After graduation, Tony proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
On August 6, 1964, while stationed in Mayport Beach, Florida, Tony was united in marriage with Velta Fay McFadden. They continued to live in Mayport Beach until Tony, still serving in the Navy, “shipped out” for an extended period of time, and Velta returned to Lee’s Summit. After Tony completed his military service, he joined Velta in Lee’s Summit where they lived until the early 1970’s when they moved to Pleasant Hill to make their home.
Before his retirement, Tony was a Maintenance Supervisor for the Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City. He was an active member of the Family Worship Center Assembly of God in Pleasant Hill, MO. Tony had a passion for restoring and showing classic cars. He loved attending car shows and visiting with other car owners and spectators.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Velta Fay Long; his parents, Leonard and Irma Cathryn Long and two sisters, Linda Leach and Sandra Crosby.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Long and wife Teena of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Bruce Long of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; one half-sister, Maxine Hermann of St. Louis, Missouri; four grandchildren, Brandon, Trenton, Ashlyn and Kayla; one nephew, Jeff Crosby, other relatives and many, many friends.
The Family of Floyd R. “Tony” Long will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill.
Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. Tim Casteel officiating.
Casket Bearers will be Brandon Long, Trenton Long, Lloyd Ross, Jon Hopkins, Roger Lowry and Paul Whaley. Full Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy and V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Team of Pleasant Hill, Missouri
